Albert Ellis was born in 1888 at East Bridgford and was the son of George a market gardener and Ann Ellis née Blagg of The Limes, East Bridgford His father George was born in 1852 at Sneinton and his mother Ann Blagg was born in 1853 at East Bridgford, they were married on 2nd July 1872 at St Mary's Church, e Nottingham, they went on to have 13 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, John Henry b1874, George b1875, William b1877, Mary b1879, Thomas b1880, Charles b1882, Sarah Ann b1885, Arthur b1886, Albert b1888, Kate b1890, Robert b1893,Edward b1894 and Harriett b1895 all were born in East Bridgford In the 1911 censs the family are living at The Limes, East Bridgford and are shown as George 59 yrs a market gardener, he is living with hsiw fie Ann 58 yrs and their children, Albert 23 yrs a gardener, Robert 18 yrs a groom, Edward 16 yrs a market gardeners son working in the market garden and Harriett 15 yrs of age no occupation listed. Albert married his wife Norah Cuddy in 1915, their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration district, they lived at Chapel Yard, East Bridgford, Nottingham they had a son Albert Rowland born 21st August 1916. Following his death his widow Norah was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and five pence a week which commenced on 25th November 1918.
Private Robert Ellis enlisted at Newark whilst residing at East Bridgford. He served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 21st March 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial bay 7.
Albert Ellis was killed in action on the 21st March 1918, he was killed on the very same day that his brother in law Sydney Cuddy ( also on this roll of honour) died and he was also killed at Arras, they are both commemorated in the same cemetery in Arras.His wife was told not only had she lost her husband on that day but also her brother.
